What are the Best Practices in Online Teaching?

Online teaching inspires students to improve their social presence and ability to collaborate.

FREMONT, CA: Many lecturers moved to provide lectures online via video conferencing when classes shifted online during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite many of the same elements of best practices in pedagogy, teaching online is a very different experience than delivering the same class in person. Online learning helps the students assess technology's benefits and drawbacks better and make evidence-based judgments on how to use it most effectively. Students can analyze the content presented and consider how digital technology affects and is affected by society and communities. The technology in education is for students to return to the learning outcomes regularly.

Collaboration and a sense of belonging

Instructors are increasingly moving away from teacher-centered pedagogies, in which the instructor serves as the primary source of information. It is critical to creating learning activities in the classroom that allow students to interact and share their knowledge. Flipped classroom technique 

Students can thoroughly spend as much time as they need to prepare for the class using the flipped classroom technique. Engaging students in course preparation before class enhances academic progress and is especially beneficial to first-generation post-secondary students. To prepare for class, students go over the slides and read the assigned texts. As a result, when participants arrive for the online, synchronous session, they will have gained access to the relevant knowledge. They will be better prepared for discussions and other in-class activities.
